The CMA and ASA regulatory updates. What's the deal?

I’ve been receiving quite a few DM’s from you guys recently asking about the new updates to the CMA and ASA guidelines. What you guys basically want to know is: what do these new updates actually mean and how do you play by the rules? What’s hard and fast rules? Because I’ve noticed as much as you have that many bloggers and influencers are saying completely different things.

This is mainly down to the fact that the guidelines are just that… guidelines and can be interpreted differently by different people.

If you’re wondering what the f*ck I’m talking about, the CMA and ASA are regulatory bodies that create guidelines that include advertising on social media… yes, the elusive #gifted and #ad that you regularly see (or don’t see in some cases) on influencers and bloggers posts/stories.

I recently stumbled across this article that I’ve posted below, after wading through pages and pages of different articles and blog posts. This one, I feel, is the clearest and really just lays out what you want to know in a way that is easy to understand.

I’d recommend giving it a read even if you aren’t an influencer and don’t do any work with brands or aren’t sent free sh*t because one day you might be and I think it’s important to have a good understanding of the guidelines so you can understand what’s happening.
